Gaming Moments inworldz

As time gets closer to a huge trip for my business, my gaming time gets to be less and less. I still get more in than the average Joe, which isn’t a great thing. I really should go to the gym more or go for a walk with the dog sometimes.

But to be fair, I am dealing with some things that make walking difficult, so….

Plus I do have regular long drives to a cafe or the roaster for my business each week. Living remote makes this take enough time out of the office as it is.

I’ve went over things well in Inworldz. Wondering how I could get the most out of my time there. And think I’ve found a decent solution.

  • Get my breedables down to a certain number. (In the works.)
  • Once again sell stuff I’ve made that people like.
  • And surely have enough time to create one new product a week, and one new freebie a month for the group.
  • Plus, maybe do something for MMP

Unfortunately, raising izzies for RFL seems a lot tougher this year. I’m not sure why. I’d say I pissed people off with my comments on the oYo coat mix up. I was “nice” about it, but also brutally honest in group notice to my peeps. Neither of the two most malicious offenders in the situation are in my group.

Still, attitudes were sort of selfish in places. I think most have come around to realizing a better way to think of the situation, which is good. But I, and a few others, have noticed a distinct “mood” in people this year. More temperamental, less willing to “give”, and sometimes even resentful of fundraising. So strange, even elsewhere I haven’t ever seen such a mood in all the years I’ve been on grids. Something is in the water, I think.

Something like this shows you really quick who you can truly trust and who you cannot. Luckily, one person I questioned turned out to be very trustworthy. Sadly, another I’ve been friends with for a long time has turned into someone I really don’t want to know any longer. ¬†Very sad people have to be that way. They must be very unhappy.

(as I write this, the worse offender is trying to defend herself publicly and say it’s oYo’s fault. Well, geesh, what did you expect to happen when you have over a dozen wrong packages delivered to your door and you choose to profit from it instead of doing the right thing and getting them to the right owner? When there was a notice sent anyway. I don’t think this will end well for her. Better not, anyway. Calling oyo irresponsible and saying they should do this and that. Oh, honey, they’ve done that and a whole lot more. And I helped, in a way. )

This situation did give me the push I needed. The push I have been looking for to get myself to stop being a full large breeder and come down to a small breeder status.

The business, the writing, the artwork, etc….I do need to back off.

My goal is to be at small breeder status in November.

On the oYo fiasco…they have made amends. Certain “circumstances” are in place to make sure the offenders do not profit from keeping the bundles they should not have. And more goodies have been added to the official horses that hopefully the group and RFL will benefit from even more.

I got to play spy…and I don’t care if it’s known. I’m not a secret spy. Besides, it was kind of fun! ūüôā

Wouldn’t recommend the job though…pay was kind of lousy and it was a bit dangerous at times.

For Relay For Life, I’ll have to close down my main RFL sales area on September 10th. Interest is way, way down this year. Sales just not happening as they did last year.

Since I’m strapped for time, there’s no use in keeping it running. Instead, I’m keeping a few spots at M&K Stables and at Bluestar Breedables to benefit RFL.

There’s just so much going on throughout the oYo community this year for RFL that people are strapped for time and resources to participate. Having my RFL offerings at markets where they visit already will work a lot better than a new location that really offers too much. Convenience for the shoppers. And time saving when they have 20 items at a time to check out versus 200.

Maybe…somehow i don’t really care anymore, after seeing the cruelty of a few people in chat. REally? you’re going to bash someone who saves up all year just to give and help raise money for RFL? This isn’t chump change we’re talking about!!!! Oyo breedables raised over 1 million game dollars for RFL last year in Inworldz alone.

Yes, people CAN just give money straight in and not get anything back, but geesh! If you make it fun for people to give by giving them something fun in return, even something in pixels, they feel good about giving the money and they keep on giving.

This is a system for raising funds for fundraising that has worked for many years on the grids. Not in just breedables but all over, with houses, home decor, landscaping, clothes, everything.

I do wish I had seen more than just myself and one other person defending the situation publicly. Note: this is a public chat so I’m not revealing anything private.

But anyway, at least today I learned of a few people to avoid becoming friends with…or where to not shop. The most worse offender says she’s selling out and leaving because of this. Good riddance, I say. I ain’t fooled. She knows full well what she’s been doing.

I just hope she’s okay in Real Life. No matter how wrong she is in this situation and how she’s acting like a two year old, I get the feeling that she’s a good person behind the avatar. I hope she finds happiness and a way to learn from this mistake and come out better on the other side.

Got some FOE comments, but another time. I am out of time for break and must get back to work now.

Morals and Ethics Differences of Opinions

I have pretty cool neighbors. They’re basically honest folks who look out for one another. If a package is miss-delivered to their door, they do attempt to get it to the right house. It’s not a game of “finders keepers, losers weepers” for the most part.

There’s always a few bad sorts, who don’t see things the same way.

Maybe not in my real life neighborhood, but it seems a few in virtual neighborhood.

The oYo breedables in Inworldz had a major glitch show up in the system. A friend had paid $100 USD for a very special one of a kind horse at auction. This horse would be the only one giving a special coat. Said friend went on vacation, and the horse dropped yesterday.

Only, it seems to me, that instead of just dropping its bundle and keeping its business private, it decided to blab across the whole server.  Identical twins of said bundle were dropped all over the grid.

One breeder saw it early on. Got excited. Tried to sell it and then said “this can’t be right.” So she let Jenni know.

Then breeder said she pulled it, making herself sound so goody-two-shoes, but then said in the same breath she’s keeping it and she’d entertain offers for the glitched horse.

Another breeder who pops in and finds a few of said bundles, keeps one for herself and sets the other for sale. It sold. Hopefully to someone ethically trying to keep them off of the grid for the true owner instead of some poor unsuspecting noob. Or not to another unethical person.

What’s happening with these coats now? Probably be worthless. Totally worthless. If there’s a hundred males out on the grid being bred now, everyone will have the coat tomorrow.

My biggest issues is: this is just like getting a package delivered to your front door by accident and you keeping it instead of trying to get it to the real owner.

Both of the individuals in question are not stupid. They can put two and two together and one freely admits she knows what she’s doing.

The other is already upset about another matter and has not checked back in yet. She may or may not be a bit hostile. And she may play dumb. Which won’t wash with me.

Not that I’ll say anything. I don’t like getting too involved directly and plainly just don’t have time to deal with it. I’ve already decided how to speak with izzies.

In this case, it’s definitely wrong. The rights to this coat were sold at an auction that was made very public and very well known. Sold for a hefty sum FOR CHARITY. They’re not just stealing from a neighbor, they’re taking from charity.

I intended to fight to win the horse too. With the express purpose of donating back the offspring to charity throughout the RFL season. I’d be willing to bet that the one who did win had plans of donating at least one of them back in a future auction too.

What’s the use now? Why would someone give 25k izzies for something that’s all over the grid, kept by dishonest people who have decided it’s rightfully theirs under the “finders keepers, losers weepers” code?

I know if I had won the horse I’d be absolutely pissed! He may be when he gets back too.

By rights, because of the glitch, oYo should make another unique horse that gives a unique coat and give it to him as a replacement.

By rights, all copies of that glitched horse should go poof.

Doubt either will happen.

I got four of the bundles. Jenni had sent out a notice asking people to delete them, or return them to her, as the horses should not be dropping those coats. Mine are still in the barn, as I’m going to give them to the real owner when he returns and let him decide what happens with the bundles.

I know I’ll be checking parentage before I buy anything anymore. Make sure the coat is not in the background at all. And I’ve knocked two places to shop at from my list so far. Which sucks. There’s not that many great breeders out there for me to buy from.

A few don’t see anything wrong with this. According to chat, many feel same way as I do. That’s comforting to know.

Mocha Frappe and Divinity behind him. Two Chocolate Shetlands I finally made myself! FINALLY.

Addition after some hours:

After being lightly challenged and warned of people pushing for the glitch horses to go poof, the one who sold a horse did not give a happy response. Said breeder then set out another glitch horse for sale. And has six more birthed at home…guessing to keep the sales spot stocked as said glitched horses sell. Yep, this person is definitely helping to make damage worse, on purpose, and seemingly out of spite.

And not someone I wish to continue fostering a friendship with.

Yes, oYo needs to take responsibility for a mistake that happened. That is just part of doing a business, any business.

No, this does not give ANY of us the right to act irresponsibly in response to the situation.

The creators are human. The system is a computer situation. Errors happen. Mistakes happen. Thankfully, the majority of oYo family realizes this and is understanding. This is comforting.

Elpis Starts A New Story and New Inworldz Life

Elpis found a long tunnel, like a man made corridor on the Tutr’ys Age. She’s explored the land above with Thorne and not sure the D’ni have actually visited this place yet. The landscape is rich with green and purple grass, which is full of lady bug like insects, and these purple birds that feed on them.

The corridor is built of a combination of rock and metal, but not D’ni like either. This could be an unrelated Age. Definitely worth exploring…

That’s the beginning of an upcoming story featuring Elpis, and perhaps something I’ll make the setting for within Inworldz. She is clearly not finished making stories with me, even though other characters don’t seem to have quite made up their minds yet.

In my publishing life we’re still feeling the loss of one valued member, and a few others are at risk. That tends to dampen the enthusiasm for the old adventures.

The good thing is that, as a writer, I have many different characters with many different adventures ready to come into play. Some have waited long enough to tell their stories. It is time.

My virtual world story with Second Life is over. The grid holds no attraction for me anymore, now that I know better. The people I miss. But one doesn’t stay in a house that’s falling down in real life, just to stay next door to the neighbors. Same with a virtual world that’s lost its magic.

I’ve went from the 2X2 section of four sims to just renting out two sims in Inworldz. Inworldz is still great, but I’m too work busy to run four sims anymore. The two sims are working out great and I feel a great relief.

Enjoy some pictures from life in Inworldz and of the oYo Breedables we play with…

My firstborn 2.5. She’s named after a 2.0 silver arab I had who was a great breeder.

A gift from oYo for helping with the beta testing period. They breed today to make their first baby.

Everyone got a pride shetland as a gift. She’s a spunky little gal.

Okay, so I went a little overboard with the shetlands. I’ve purchased 37 packs so far. SO FAR. There will be more.

Sadly, the ONE coat I want to work with, Chocolate, didn’t show up in any of those packs. And a ton of cremellos did. I told Jenni about it, so I hope this means the next time I get packs, there will be a chocolate coat in there.

I’m being good though. Between selling and heavening, I have a system in place that makes it so I’m just buying food and salt in advance. Luckily, I have a huge sales selection at BlueStar that still allows me the luxury of playing extra.

When Life and Virtual Worlds Do Not Quite Mesh

Lately, I’m finding it more and more difficult to justify taking on so much responsibility in the virtual world living. What’s sad is how I really don’t participate in events, I don’t run events, nor do I become overly involved in anything other than setting up and fundraising for RFL and T4T each year.

Yet, just the tasks involved of managing my home territories is taking way more time than I have to give most days. Nevermind that I have not been able to do any real building projects in many months.

For this reason, and many others I won’t get into, I’m pretty sure I’m looking at cutting back on my Inworldz responsibilities. I did have an idea of how to do this without giving up too much, and I did try to set that up, but it didn’t work out.

It was one of those things I thought would take ten minutes of my time and I could do on a work break. Tried it. An hour later I still hadn’t been able to accomplish what I wanted. The time included dealing with many failed TP’s and freezes.

I got the message that I need to just not do so much from whatever grid-Angel was looking out for my best intentions. ¬†It’s highly likely that I’ll let my 2X2’s go at the middle of July.

I’ll still be around. I’ll still be breeding animals and building, I hope. Just at a much lower capacity. Maybe just with my rented sim and the market spots.

SL-tudes have been trying to weave their crap into one of the groups I’m with. Seem to try throwing some personal attacks in under the guise of being concerned. It was great to see the bulk of the IW group rallying together to show their support and shove the “attitude” away.

One of the drawbacks of SL’s decline causing people to give IW a try. You get the riff-raff and unsavories in along with the good guys. ¬†I don’t think their SL-tude will stick here.

Nothing to report on SL, cause I just clean up as the spaces rent runs out now. A few more weeks I’m done, and any desire to go in for anything has been nil. I won’t cancel two of my accounts, just in case anything changes. But I really don’t see any indication that it will.

Sadly haven’t any time for Myst lately. I may go in later tonight.

My blog is becoming a waste of time for anyone to read anymore. Kind of sad. But in a way it’s happy too. Real life work is so busy and fulfilling it’s really not that bad of a thing.

Perhaps Digital Chaos needs an upgrade and a fresh, more focused theme to fit in with my busier life style and bring in something more interesting.

Shall think on that…

Edith Finch Second Life and Inworldz

My husband and I played The Remains of Edith Finch together this week on the new computer. This was different than most things we’ve played before. I liked it. The graphics are so awesome. At one point I zoomed in on a blade of grass and it was so realistic.

The game is not morbid or gruesome, which is a good thing. I don’t go for blood and guts. Sorry, if you rely on those to tell the story, then you’re not telling the story very well. To be realistic one does not need gruesome graphics.

Edith Finch’s story line did have a bit of creepiness to it. Not too much for me, but was a little bit for my husband. At one point he asked, “Just what kind of game did you get anyway?” LOL

You get to play not only Edith Finch’s character but also the characters of those whose stories she uncovers. That was so cool.

We don’t have a game controller and relied on directional keys plus the mouse. Sometimes this was awkward to get the hang of. But not so bad that we didn’t enjoy the game.

The storyline is good, yet it was one of those games that left me musing about it at the end. Did I really like it or not?

swimming1_001

I do miss swimming with my Biobreeds.

For me, Second Life has died. It’s been time to say good-bye to it.

The experiment on whether or not Second Life could appeal to me and win my favor as a new avatar is over. SL failed. At first, it was a joy to be with the Biobreeds animals again, and they’re still awesome creations. And the Kitty Cats are still wonderful as always.

Just the wrong platform to enjoy them on now. It’s a shame that it does not seem in the plan for either of the companies to come over to Inworldz.

I sold my land cheap. I downgraded my account to free. I’ve got a small place to finish my animals out. The money left paid for 1 month’s rent.

After that month, one of two things will happen. Either I’ll keep it for kitties for a bit, or I’ll just let everything go. It’s possible I’ll keep it as my homebase and visit once every two weeks for kitties and just to look around.

At this point, I’m leaning towards letting SL go completely at the end of the rental period. After going to the Home and Garden fair and trying to get around, I just wasn’t too impressed. With the grid. Creators are spectacular, as always.

The whole thing about Ozimals being forced out of business is a lesson to us all. Nothing virtual is guaranteed. Especially since we, as users/breeders, are not privy to the actual business contracts of the creators, we cannot know when something like this can happen to our own lovelies.

Why I take lots of pictures.

Bailey and pup. Biobreeds

Inworldz is great as ever. Maybe even more so.

oYo beta testing started for the 2.5 version horses. I’m not sure if this means we’ll get three versions of horses or if a future update will combine the version 2s with the version 2.5s.

Even though it’s more management for a large breeder as myself, I’m okay with three versions. Just wonder if this is too much work to throw on top of everything else for management.

Supposedly, I’m being interviewed for new articles for the oYo website. I know why. I’m a major player who’s spent many hours providing feedback to management about the animals.

Poor Jenni will probably end up getting a book-sized notecard from me on the beta testing this time. What’s even worse, I think the testing everything and writing a book about it has caught on with other people. I won’t be the only one she’ll have to make time to read goodies from. LOL

Plus, I contribute a lot during RFL. Not only in raising money myself, but giving by bidding high on some items during the fundraising efforts, and giving up prime bundles for the auctions.

But, as with any successful business, more people start coming in and bringing in their own ideas. Some people may not be so happy with me now. I’ve been known to speak my mind here, along with other forums.

And, along with that, come those wanting to bring “what they know” or “what they’ve learned” from SL about how things should be. Let’s just say we don’t exactly think alike. We don’t exactly think like SL and do things differently here…we do them better.

Anyway, will everyone be happy about my interview article? We shall see. I have no clue of which direction the writer will go with the theme on it. I sent Luna a notecard about me, my history, and what I do now to start with. Maybe I should have written a story about me and Arion instead.

In horses, I’ve cut way back. I’ve taken most off of salt and just let about fifty have salt now for the next few weeks. We’re in a sales slow down period. (typical in breedables) Values all over are dropping. (Perhaps in anticipation for many thinking we’ll move to 2.5 versions…just exactly what’s going to happen with them is not clear yet.)

Good thing is that I’ve almost caught up in market and store set ups, ready to get back to building.

Further good thing is that I’m not sure how much building I really can get done. Real life work has been increasing and I have numerous travel trips coming up.

My Limited VW Last Three Months

Look at me! I’ve been in Mystonline again. Took forever to figure out how to make it work right after everything went to Windows 10. Why no one thinks to sticky something up top in the forums and social sites to help newer players, I don’t know. I found it because I’m an old player and knew where to dig to find the goodies.

Or maybe that’s the plan. Maybe they secretly want people to get discouraged and move along so they can drop it. I don’t think so, but the lack of certain things does make one wonder. Probably it’s just not a priority until they get the new sign up issue worked out.

I’m glad to be in the Ages again and loving it. But do miss the Cyan propelled community they created during the live Gametap days where they created storylines for it. They really should have explored ways to keep that working, and made it work. I’m sure there’s a way.

Sadly, I do not know enough to even begin how. I just know what I want.

There are fan shards one can connect to, and those are cool. My opinion based on pictures. I’m married to IT who’s pretty strict about security, so have not attempted any of them. I will keep to the Ages Cyan gives us.

I may challenge hubby to help me get to the updated Riven, if that’s released outside of Cyan. That I love to see and explore!

Otherwise, for Myst/Riven/Uru playing it’s what’s available on Steam and iTunes for now for me. I still have discs but no computer to play older games on. For now.

As I write, my hubby is building us a super gaming computer. Well, super for us. Maybe not super for the ultra geeks. LOL This one will do VR and then some. May even do Obduction with Occulus Rift at some point.

My one sadness with replaying Myst…we get so little time with Zandi. Wish his part lasted longer through the game. Be neat if he’d stay through the whole Mystonline at his trailer for the player to go back to and get hints from, for whatever age they’re in. Would take a lot of recoding, even though the voice scripts shouldn’t be difficult.

Another sadness is how my gameplay time is dwindling fast.

Yes, I still have a presence in Second Life. I’ve been holding onto a small 1024 plot and doing some breedables with it. Not sure why, to be honest. The people I used to hang out with are now foreign to me, and I have no time or desire to “meet” them again.

Well, I do still care, as I keep tabs on them via the group notices and watching their chat conversations. It is reassuring to know they’re still there.

I thought the whole “Make Ozzie Bald” challenge for RFL would be the thing to get me back involved, but while I have fond memories, I just don’t have the drive to be involved anylonger. Not there anyway.

I built up a little funds and playing those lindens out, but think at the end, I’m canceling membership, ditching the land and giving up the breedables in SL. IF I decide to keep anything, it may be stashing some kittycats in the cattery. Something I can check on for a few moments a few times a month.

It is nice to be able to venture into the grid and check out the pedigrees for animals set for sale. Still see a lot of lines from Smmubert and I that go way back. Think I do this about once a month.

Inworldz is awesome, as always.

oYo has 2.5 horses coming out. Excited to be part of beta testing for that.

My market sim is nicely stocked now and very buyer friendly. Seller friendly for me too. Relaxed pricing, based on my own ideas, not what others pressure for “the good of the community.”

My good for the community is pricing for what makes me feel happy. I may even do a surprise deal every now and then for the shoppers who actually come out and see what’s there.

I also pay it forward a good portion when I do get sales and buy from others.

This year’s RFL sales area is nearly ready. Over 400 horse bundles, plus a good number of other critters.

The breeding is great still. Sometimes the rares seem to be set too rare. And there’s been issues that result in hairs not coming through. The Xmas hairs on horses did not work this year, and neither have the Valentines. That sucks, as I’m a hair breeder.

I’m not patient with the rares when they don’t work. And I refuse to buy or sell them for extreme amount of money. Plus other harmless issues I’ve had.¬†So I’ve changed my tactics.

I’m breeding horses in what I call Specialized Breeding herds. I set them up for a combination of three specific traits: coat, eyes, and hair. This gives me a purpose for my breeding without having to deal with my personal disappointments.

The rumor is the hair problem is fixed…just not in time for me. Not changing tactics again. I’m very happy with my Specialized Breeding Herds.

Added note: Had to let this sit for a few days before posting.

Hubby got the computer done and wow. 100-200 fps. Never saw that before. In ten plus years of virtual world gaming, I’ve played with your average every day computers and not the really built up ones.

Gotta say, the trip into SL was amazing. Things actually WORKED at the RFL Fantasy Faire. I was able to zip around and buy some things for RFL.

First time I truly enjoyed being in SL in all those years.

And it was sad. I’m happy to get to play that way now, but so sad that the majority of people do not. Games are just too advanced anymore.

And this does not change how I feel about SL. I still prefer Inworldz.

Inworldz is pretty good now too. Just will have to get some techie help with viewer settings next week for it. Won’t be able to play on the weekend, due to family. ¬†I am up to five sims now, as of today. ūüôā

Iceapocalypse Update

Thought I’d do a quick comment update while we’re stuck inside, thanks to nearly an inch of ice from our ice storm outside so far. And while we wait for the forthcoming wind gusts that threaten to fall limbs onto the stressed power lines tonight.

My character, Elpis, has been saying to me that she’s not finished. She wants a series later in the year. She wants to name it something to show her break away from Myst Ages to her own worlds.

The linking books are not the only means to travel. Some natives have their own means of traveling, and the D’ni have linked to their worlds here and there.

It doesn’t seem likely that forthcoming stories will cross over into Myst Ages or be places the D’ni linked to. Not sure what a good name will be yet. The phrase “beyond Myst” has been used too many times. Maybe something about leaving Myst behind.

That bugs me too. Elpis is a lover and follower of Yeesha. While she may be exploring regions that do not involve the D’ni, she will always be looking for clues to finding the lost D’ni.

I shall keep brainstorming on this.

In Second Life, I’m delighted to see that they cancelled the 500 Linden minimum sales price for the oyo market. Forget that it’s just plain wrong, there’s really no use to enforced minimum pricing. People will pay and sell for what they want. They’ll find a way to work around it.

And people like me will find ways to defy anyone telling them what they can and cannot do with their own property.

There was a brief comment from Ozzie that he was taking opinions from others on whether or not he should start a minimum price requirement. If I wasn’t incognito I’d have given him a bit more than he was asking for. LOL

That was awhile ago, but didn’t see any more from him. Hopefully others gave him a resounding NO.

Let’s face it. There’s not enough going on in SL anymore to overthink the secondary market. People who don’t buy cheap aren’t as many as they were. And the ones who do, tend to stick with breeders they’re familiar with, whether it’s in person or from quietly stalking them over time.

I can say that as a breeder who no one knows, I get very few sales at all in SL now. In comparison to if I was my Elpis avatar, I’d probably get at least one or two sales per week. Just because Elpis is known and trusted as a breeder.

Read an update on the upcoming Sansar. Nah. Still not interested.

In Inworldz, oyo brought out a lot over the winter season for us to play with. In some ways, this is great. It makes for fun in breeding. In sales, it’s mixed. Sometimes it means more sales, sometimes less.

Overall it’s more good than bad that they released so much.

They’ve seem to fallen back on the old feeling that rare sometimes means impossibly rare. I had Jenni check on the xmas hairs not passing and she told me she checked but that they are rare. Website does not indicate this, so I figured something was wrong.

In my eye, it’s still wrong. Rare seems to mean never showing up in this case. And that’s just not fun.

I’m sure they were made rare in response to people requesting rare stuff so they could sell higher. It happens. Everyone wants to sell for more.

Well, not me. I’d rather sell more for less. I get joy from seeing more people being able to enjoy my offspring. And, let’s be honest. This group is way too small to worry about it anyway…we should just breed for fun, in my opinion.

Still, I try to be somewhat respectful in horses‚ÄĆ. My minimum market price is 500 I’z. Most rares are 1-2k, depending on traits. I do keep a supply of discounted bundles at home at Elvenglades for 200-250 I’z. These are common coats with nice traits. Oh, at market, I’ll sometimes have SS rares for 500. People don’t seem to want to buy those as much.

New traits or very hard to get traits add to the pricing. As does specialty breeding.

I’ve noticed one or two breeders offering bundles for 50 Izzies. Wonder if anyone will try to raise a fuss? Someone already did for someone else selling cheaper, though not that cheap. Felt good to see others standing up for this person in question.

What I did not like was my name mentioned as someone who sells for the right prices. Said breeder being griped about is an actual friend of mine. I sent her a message right away when I found out making sure she understood that I was not involved and was very happy with her prices. I buy a lot from her.

Inworldz is not perfect. The avatars have fallable human beings behind them. You’ll still get all the personality quirks you do. How you deal with them is all that matters. Won’t go into that.

Will share that I have a very pushy breeder intent on friending Tempest. Said person does not read profile to see that Tempest does not friend people and giving instructions on how to find my public avatar. Never talks to me first to ask permission…has never said boo to me at all. Just keeps requesting. I keep declining. Now I’m not sure I’d want to friend rude, pushy person on my public avatar even.

Since I sugar Arion, I have a huge load of dawn dapples and purple heart eyes. But I only sell a few to give other breeders a chance to play. Now I’m getting the RFL purple hair. This one was not out there because it got missed being added to the gene pool. I can’t say how others are doing with it…more specifically the buyer to the other two special edition horses. I’m doing well and will have a line of those built up. The trait will not go extinct on my watch.

I do worry about Nymph coat. Nymph hair is doing well. Nymph coat does not seem to be doing so well, for me or the other Nymph owners. Almost seems like only horse passing Nymph coat is the special horse that Chloe has. It’s possible that coat may go extinct.

I have an 85 day old noon dapple. Not one noon dapple from her yet. Another one set too rare and I suspect will go extinct soon. Unless more randoms keep getting released through the system.

Digital Chaos End of 2016

At the end of the year, I’m finally figuring out just how much playtime I can have in the virtual world. It’s not much compared to what it was years ago. Work keeps me too busy to even keep up on the gaming blogs, and I’m delighted. I love my work, so this is a very good thing.

To be honest, I was going to shut down. Think I’ve even mentioned it here. But I’m working on my editorial calendars and feel I’ll keep this blog going. Elpis may not be done putting her Myst inspired exploration stories out there. I would like to keep a place to gripe or just plainly report on the virtual world thoughts I have.

Not sure if I’ll try for a once a month post or a quarterly post here.

Elpis hasn’t done much this year. She may or may not do something to show before summer. I’ve got a fantasy series to publish this spring, plus promotions for another author, a special book release for Sandie, and we are reworking Sandie’s two series to bring them up today and prepare them for fundraising efforts.

All this while making my debut as THE Coffee Copywriter. My new business venture. Breaking out from current client sector into a new one designed to work with my future shop plans.

I am a loner in Second Life still, breeding oyos and biobreeds. I visit the grid a few times a week to get babies and feed them. I do still observe what’s going on in the breedables world and with other people on the grid.

All grids have went through a residential slowdown this year, and Second Life is no exception. I expect a bit more slowdown in Second Life as Sansar opens in 2017 and many move there. I also expect a bit of a pick up for other grids as those who do not want to go to Sansar take a closer look at those.

Oyos disappointed me in Second Life this season. They ruined the horses there for me. Made them into some sort of Barbie wanna be joke with the new hairs. I really did heaven all I had after the update. I explored a little this morning and see some changes at markets. Less lives are out for sale and many of what are for sale are older ones that were not updated. And some serious price drops. This implies I’m not the only one unhappy with the change.

I pointedly gave my opinion to Jenni in Inworldz. I’m one of their biggest breeder on that grid and wanted to make myself clear. I tried, I really did. I tried to get used to the hairs and warm up to them in Second Life, but just could not. I suspect my days as being a large horse breeder in Inworldz will come to an end if those hairs move there. As will a few others who breed like I do.

No loss for me. I’ll adjust, if needed. More elephant breeding. And I have a ton of retired horses saved up to keep on my sims. No need to update them. I’d just have to build more for the charity efforts.

Charity efforts for 2016 went well. We took in 12k for Toys 4 Tots through Kaedara breedables. I’m about ready to close out the current kiosk and put out a new one for 2017 for our Relay For Life efforts. It’s possible our 2016 yearly total will be around 120K when I do that. Not too shabby for a two person effort and less than six months’ work.

I stay in Second Life for the beauty of the Biobreeds animals. When it comes time, I’ll be sad to say good bye to my digital friends. It looks like that will be the end of it, for Biobreeds will be in Sansar. I get the feeling they don’t feel capable of handling staff for two grids and so won’t be coming to Inworldz.

I can understand that. A lot of oyo work is up to Jenni. She has to manage both Second Life and Inworldz. One has to stay on top of things with SL folk and the grid isn’t as nice on breedables as Inworldz is. Plus she holds down a RL job. As a result, her IW to-do list seems to move at a much slower pace.

I try to be understanding and not get bitter. But am disappointed about the blackrose horn script. I’ve had a few born that are a bit useless to me now. I really wanted the new texture on it. So sad. That was the main new horn I looked forward to enjoying so much. Maybe she’ll get around to it in 2017 sometime.

Still, she does an awesome job getting done what she does get done for us. And we never have to wait to get help from her. Just hope they get more staffing help or something before the grid grows. Too much for just one person.

The horse and elephant vendors are great. Sadly, not many are taking advantage of them, so buyers still have to be careful. And they’re not watching them closely to catch any broken before they sell. Can’t understand that myself. Only issues I’ve had is that the horse vendors don’t show horns for unicorns, and the elephant vendors don’t show wild or tamed traits. Should tell Jenni I guess. Hoping she makes them for all the breedables.

If you’re a new visitor here and you need something other than watching television to do with your time, give virtual world gaming a try. There’s plenty of online games out there. I love mystonline.com – and it’s free to play. The game is ran with funds from player donations. It’s expanse though, so may be a good idea to find an older player to help guide you. One or two areas are better played with a buddy. Join the forums and ask for help…ask where to start if you do download it.

My old persona there during the live gameplay days was ms. isis of Myss Terrie’s Bevin. (Bevins are now known as neighborhoods. Didn’t like the change myself. I prefer bevin and will continue to use that term if I write more fan fiction.) I worked as a guide within our bevin, and I’ve been known to enlist new players in Second Life and help them get started.

To give you an idea of how much there is to do there, I created my own flipbook (handbook) to keep at my desk when I had to guide someone. That thing is 3 inches thick, at least. There’s nice online guides out there to use now. People can direct you to them via the forum.

We created Friends of the Fissure before the live version of the gameplay ended. And continued it after. Myss Terrie created a point and click adventure webpage to show our creations off. Sadly, after we lost our dear friend Gandhar to heart attack, the interest died down for it. Although I did continue to write Elpis’s journeys. I just had her break off from FoF and set up her own base. ¬†You can still see the point and click adventure here. Just click in the sky – upper left side.

My characters are Elpis and Sophrosyne in that journey.  I still have them in mystonline.com

There are independent gameplay creators in Second Life too. To join is free. To have a home takes either joining the membership, with which you get free rent for a 512 section of ground or a house on their prebuilt communities. You may also not join the membership and just rent from someone whatever house, skybox, or parcel of ground you wish. I suggest signing up and just playing free and homeless for awhile. It takes time to get to see the grid, meet people, find what’s available, and get your viewer to work right. There’s so many settings to get just right for your computer and connection.

There’s less gameplay in Inworldz versus Second Life, but it’s a super grid for building, sailing, flying, riding, and hanging out with people. As with all grids there can be some quirks to performance at times, but overall, it runs much better than Second Life. Of course, as with all things, there are exceptions. Particularily if you live in an area where your connection does not travel well to the servers. This is true for all grids.

Less people on Inwordz also means more privacy without having to get “rude”. For creators and builders, this is a huge plus.

If you’re looking to get into virtual worlds to make a paycheck, I can’t help you. I used to. But what worked back then when I did make a profit for me, doesn’t really seem to work so well now.

I guess I profit in Inworldz with my breedables. But since 90% of what I do make goes to charity, I really cannot say I do. Even so, I bet if I add it up, profit would only be 50% of my cost, without including tiers. It’s just very inexpensive in Inworldz, no need to count prims for the most part, and I’ve found some of the most wonderful people there.

Til next time!

Happy New Year!

From Being Special to Being There #inworldz

I’m learning more about the virtual world personality and how it relates to us in real life. Why live a virtual life?

There are many reasons. One of them is that it is easy to become “special” to someone else, or a group of someone else. Not just in relationships, but in becoming a customer to a creator in the world.

I’m an introvert, so my chances of being special in real life is often limited to my family…often to just my husband for many days at a time. As an introvert, being social truly wears out my body and mind. I can be social, but then need 2 or 3 days alone to recouperate.

This seems to somewhat true in virtual world living. I find I have a limit to my social happiness during the RFL fundraising season. I often need breaks when I must not be in contact with anyone…often not even wanting to be “seen” by anyone.

In life, I’ve always been a business manager. I’ve ran a lot of businesses and even when I was just a worker for a business, I ended up “managing” the department in some fashion. This progressed to being an office manager and then finally to having my own business again.

Seems that in virtual world, I need some contact with the creator of my breedables and that I need to be kept in the loop of things. It’s more than just being able to run my own business effectively, and being able to guide my own customers. It’s something “special” to be in constant contact with the creator.

This hasn’t happened so often lately, since the bundle breakage issue has tamed down…or at least we’re on a slight break from it. And at events and such, there’s less oYo creator one on one time with them and us breeders. Like they’re there in the background doing their jobs but that’s it.

And it’s true. Because they are so ultra busy in Second Life, the daily contact in Inworldz with breeders has fallen onto the CSRs and other managers. Understandable, and no failing on their part. They’re kicking out an awesome product and making sure our troubles are tended to very quickly still.

But, sadly, the creators haven’t had time to personally socialize with us for awhile. While I know why, I realize what it is that creates some of the fun in breeding. It’s the whole feeling that we’re seen as “special” when they’re around to tell us what to look forward to and to just chat. Now that they’re so busy designing, it feels as if we’re just “there”.

I suspect being special is one of the benefits people find in developing romantic relationships in world, clubbing, being a creator who has an active group following, being a DJ, and numerous other activities one can do in world.

Something interesting.

Now, on the oYo note. Having fun. Loads of it. But realize I went off the deep end again as a breeder. My numbers are up too high again. I say when I leave for a few days and come back to 80 bundles waiting for me, I may be breeding too many.

Horses is my worse weakness and must cut back. Today I went roaming around Second Life and realized it’s possible this may be made easier for me. I hope we get a say about the new “hairs” they’re creating for Second Life. Personally, I don’t want them. Way too cutesy. I want my natural hairs that’s currently on my horses and not those “improved” hairs, as they called them. We shall see. If our Inworldz hairs are “improved”, I just won’t be tempted to breed as many as I am.

Now the new dogs in Second Life…I saw the German Shepherd and Great Dane bodies. Seem better than the Inworldz ones. Those I’d like to see “improved”. And the different coats I saw…I’d like to see those too come to Inworldz.

Going to be interesting to see what comes to Inworldz and what doesn’t. And how that affects my breeding choices.

Getting a lot of Dawn Dapples, just not ready to start selling them yet...they're worth more to me than the market supports. Maybe when the barn is all Dawn Dapples...

Living Your Second Life #secondlife #inworldz

I really like this article about Second Life by Caledonia Skytower. What are you doing the rest of your second life?

As many know, I’m one to cry out when Linden Labs go through a phase of ignoring us, their customers. I’m also one to have stated several times that I feel they’ve been doing a better job in recent times.

This article does imply many get bored with the same old thing and move on to the flashier options. They do. But not me. Simpler is better for me.

I joined Second Life when it was full of bugs and took a lot of patience to deal with. It still has issues, still doesn’t run as well as I would like some days, and still takes patience. But it’s improved a lot.

Is it the best choice for me? Obviously, if you’ve been reading my stuff, you know the answer to that is no.

BUT I am still there. Just not living there. It’s no longer a location for my “second life”. It’s a game, I visit every few days for a short time on my breaks. It’s something inbetween a grid home and a standalone game I like to play multiple times.

The code still works, which is impressive. But it is reaching it’s limits of how well it can be customed to meet customers’ expectations.

The author of the above article implied that, as a free player, one does not have a say in grid matters. As a marketing professional, I disagree.

Many free players still pay lindens for things, and all do provide the business a service in return for playing on the grid and letting others know about it. So, I’m sure Linden Labs realize these individuals are just as important to cater to.

Plus, in marketing speak, even free players are being groomed to becoming paying players at some point…in some way. A part of the marketing funnel for lead generation, for those of us in marketing.

I know where this thought process of the non-paying players comes from. Linden Labs support and perks do not cater to the free players on the grid. This is one thing that took me away from Second Life. Once I saw there was something better.

In Inworldz, I had a voice long before I paid to play. Something beyond the message boards, which even free players in Second Life do get also. The founders and managers talked to us. We’re able to start tickets and everyone is¬†treated equally, not according to our paying status.

And less “government”. In Inworldz, we do consider the Izzy economy. Just not on the same level as Second Life pushes the Linden economy.

I’m not pointing this out to actually bash Second Life and Linden Labs. I’m just showing these things turned me off, and that’s a major¬†part of what made Second Life become boring to me. From what I hear Linden Labs has listened to others feeling the same way and has made some improvements with Sansar.

The breedables keep me there. I’m still in familar territory, not as myself. Never again. But I quietly go in every few days or so, for a few moments to check in on my breedables. While the grid doesn’t hold a fascination for me anymore, I’ve chosen to have fun with the critters while it’s there.

The other thing is, I like simple living. I’m not interested in bigger, faster, and flashier bells and whistles. I like a simple game life that allows me to create and interact on a basic level. ¬†In Inworldz, mesh is 100 times better, but still sometimes it does not please me. Even in prims, I find myself preferring good old fashioned regular and sculpt prims. ¬†Even for my avatar.

Perhaps it’s because I’m not into pixel humping. Thus, I’m also not interested in how oddly my butt or chest wiggles and bounces to attract another who may or may not be of the sex I want to get involved with. And if I wasn’t happily committed to my husband in both of my lives, I probably wouldn’t be interested in either of those things anyway. That’s not how I roll.

So the real reason I read the above article. What are you doing with your second life?

I’m living it in Inworldz with more freedom and ease than ever. Thanks to the oYos, I have wonderful breedables to play with. Thanks to the founders and managers being so open and wonderful, I feel comfortable with them.

It suits me. I’m more of an introvert. The easier grid performance and lower¬†population helps me be more comfortable.

Granted, my “second life” is waning. My mundane life is becoming way too busy and way too full for me to spend time I have in the games in the previous years. And it is possible that my “second life” will turn into a once a week thing for an hour or two. Main reason it isn’t now is because I’m able to be in and work at same time, giving me an outdoor atmosphere for my indoor work area.

And if we get the hobby farm situation we’re thinking of…who knows. We never know how the future will shape our lives, the mundane¬†ones or the “second life” ones.

Second Life taught me how to create, how to put designs together. Inworldz continues that teaching. That teaching carries over in the mundane world. I see the influences in websites I put together, infographics designs, and other graphic designs.

While I’ve outgrown Second Life and have gotten downright pissed off at it in the past, it’s helped shape me and my career.

My wonderful sky garden for the dogs and cats in Inworldz, using Breezy Builds skybox garden as a base.
